Assure Controls Selected as Finalist for 'World's Best Technologies' Meeting
Carlsbad, California, March 13, 2006 — Recently, Assure Controls received notification and congratulations from the organizers of the annual World's Best Technology Showcase, that the company's "QwikLite" technology has been chosen as a finalist. The showcase is the nation's premier event featuring the largest collection of undiscovered technologies emanating from top universities, labs, and research institutions from across the country and around the globe. The showcase is produced in cooperation with The National Association of Seed and Venture Funds and the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer.
"We have selected 'QwikLite' as one of the finalists, joining an outstanding group of researchers and entrepreneurs representing breakthrough technologies," said Paul Huleatt, CEO of World's Best Technologies.
To be selected as a presenter, Assure Controls underwent a competitive submission and screening process. Participating companies and technologies are selected by - and presented to - over 100 seasoned venture investors and Fortune 500 licensing scouts. The meeting represents the collaborative effort of investors, licensees, and technology commercialization professionals. Hundreds of technologies are reviewed from scientists or entrepreneurs seeking to commercialize a world class technology, hoping to be offered one of the slots and a unique opportunity to showcase their technology and network with leading seed investors, venture capitalists, and corporate licensing partners. Presenters are judged and a "Best of Show" award is presented on the last day of the conference held March 28-29th in Arlington, Texas.

"I am very pleased to be a finalist and presenter at the World's Best Technologies meeting," stated Bryan Bjorndal, President and Founder. "This is timely, since we anticipate our product commercialization and partnering discussions to accelerate in the next few months. I am flattered to be included in this unique group of entrepreneurs."
Bjorndal will be presenting the business opportunity he envisions for the Company's patented technology that allows rapid onsite detection of contaminants at toxic levels in water and soils. The "QwikLite Testing System" uses sensitive bioluminescent plankton in small cartridges to assess both inorganic and organic substances. When exposed to substances, as toxicity increases, bioluminescence decreases. The U.S. Navy conducted the original research, discovered this relationship, and Assure Controls has licensed the exclusive commercial rights.
The meeting is designed to support the movement of world-class technologies from leading laboratories and universities into the marketplace by providing the opportunity for entrepreneurs, scientists, commercialization program managers, and seed investors to develop new relationships. By facilitating these new relationships, the World's Best Technology showcase serves as a catalyst between university and lab-based technologies, the investment community, and ultimately, the marketplace. Presenting technologies are selected solely on the merits of their innovation and the specific investment or licensing opportunity.
The World's Best Technology meeting is not an event recognizing and highlighting technology for technology's sake. But rather, World's Best Technologies presenters must demonstrate their technology has the potential to form the basis for a high growth commercial enterprise or may be licensed easily to solve a specific market problem. As a measure the success in commercializing technologies, over 1 in 3 of the past presenters has been successful in raising first (or next) round capital or licensing their technologies.
"Since presenting companies are screened by a national panel of investors, venture capitalists, and corporate licensing professionals experienced in commercializing new technologies, this is an honor just to be a finalist," said Bjorndal. "I feel strongly that our simple and reliable method of determining water toxicity will have a tremendous impact on water assessment, pollution control, and global healthcare efforts."
