QwikLite™ Technology Noted on EPA's "Measurement and Monitoring Technologies for the 21st Century."

Carlsbad, California, January 31, 2007 — The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) recently informed Assure Controls, Inc. that their company's patented QwikLite™ technology was added to the list of technical descriptions listed in the EPA Technology Innovation Program.

This program does not promote products, only methods and advanced techniques that have been used in government projects and meet their criteria as "Measurement and Monitoring Technologies for the 21st Century." The update states that QwikLite™ has been commercialized, and provides a link to the company website: www.assurecontrols.com

QwikLite™ technology was developed and patented by the U.S. Navy, and licensed to Assure Controls, Inc. in 2005. In the EPA Technology Innovation Program, the specific use of QwikLite™ is in rapid sediment testing; and the U.S. Navy internal name was "QwikSed" (a combination of QwikLite+Sediments).

Noted on the EPA's Hazardous Waste Clean-Up Information website page is this summary:

"QwikSed bioassays can evaluate both acute and sublethal chronic effects from exposure to a variety of toxicants. The dinoflagellates in the QwikSed bioassay are at least as sensitive to organic and inorganic toxicants as mysid shrimp, silverside fish, chain diatoms, and sea urchins."

Bryan Bjorndal, President stated, "In combination with the previously awarded international standard 'ASTM E1924-97 Standard Guide for Conducting Toxicity Tests with Bioluminescent Dinoflagellates', the EPA Technology Innovation Program is part of our on-going discussions regarding the use of QwikLite™ in all accepted methods for contaminant testing within EPA required testing, and is proceeding on multiple levels."
