Water Quality Assessments Offered to Water Monitoring Organizations in Support of California Water "Snapshot Day"
Vista, California, April 22, 2010 — For the second year, in the over the next few weeks, California citizen monitoring groups will perform water quality testing for "Snapshot Day" throughout the state. On Earth Day 2010, Assure Controls is pleased to announce a no charge offer, and several groups have already scheduled sampling days and arranged for Rapid Toxicity Assessments (RTAs) of their coastlines, waterbodies, or watersheds.

The Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program of the California State Water Resources Control Board assisted in getting the message out via their email notification systems. SWAMP is tasked with assessing water quality in all of California’s surface waters. The program conducts monitoring directly and through collaborative partnerships; provides numerous information on products, all designed to support water resource management in California. Assure Controls requires participants in the “Snapshot” offer to follow the SWAMP protocols for collection, labeling, chain of custody, preservation and shipping. The availability of a simple kit has been provided a uniform method for collection and sample transportation.
Rapid Toxicity Assessments (RTAs) are a first level, rapid and sensitive screening method that is ideal for large volume and large scale testing requirements such as watersheds which face an increasing load of “Non point source” contaminants include general pollutants which enter water bodies from agricultural areas, neighborhoods, storm water run-off from parking lots and even wind-borne debris.
The availability of a rapid water quality test also allows verification of “good” water quality, which is the goal of all stewards of the environment. In addition, Rapid Toxicity Assessments (RTAs) provide first indications of where resources should be focused, more testing is possible, and actionable data is available sooner.
Assure Controls will also be presenting at the 2010 National Monitoring Conference in Denver, Colorado, April 25-29. The company will present “Using Rapid Toxicity Assessments to Optimize Water Quality Testing Budgets.”
