Biological Impact Number
The Biological Impact Number (BIN) is the quantifiable result provided by the QwikLite 200 Biosensor System. This result is displayed on the screen, indicating both the presence and severity of biologically harmful substances in a sample when compared to CONTROL.
A high number indicates a significant negative impact on the sensitive biological test organism (Pyrocystis lunula) due to inhibition of normal physiological light output in the presence harmful contaminants (toxic response). A high number is indicative of aquatic environmental stress at the location of the sample, at the time of the sample.
A low number may indicate that there is some affect, but not severe enough to be biologically harmful; at the location of the sample, at the time of the sample. A qualified individual should interpret the results to determine if additional testing, mitigation or remediation is required.
