QwikLite™ 200 is a novel, self-contained portable instrument for testing of contaminants and performing toxicity assessments (bioassays). Employing the latest in optics, electronics and software computing, QwikLite™ 200 combines several components into a case small enough to be carried with one hand and deployed in the field for on-site environmental use. The optical, mechanical and electronic measurement system, disposable test kits, and all supplies needed for measurement of samples with contaminants which may be in concentrations high enough to be toxic are contained in a convenient carrying case weighing approximately 5 to 7 lbs.
QwikLite™ 200 uses patented and proven technology to measure light output from bioluminescent plankton. The changes in light output from these marine organisms provide an excellent indication of toxic effects due to chemical compounds, effluents, and contaminated sediments. The instrument also uses fluorescence as a means to verify living biomass in all data sets.
The QwikLite™ 200 Testing System integrates key testing and quality control requirements:
- Optics and electronics for measuring predictable changes in the physiology of small marine plankton. Low power: supplied by USB
- A microprocessor based software system containing the user interface, operation and control of the instrument, communications, report generation, connected by USB to personal computers. A hand held portable digital assistant (PDA), to be released soon.
- Automation of test sample inputs via bar code scanning ensuring quality control.
- Low power: supplied by USB
- Disposable, single use test kits contain pre-packaged research organisms (plankton).
